I do not need any therapy! I’m not crazy!

In the case of cyclic or repetitive difficulties, a very frequent comment made to one close to us is “but I do not need therapy, I’m not crazy!” Of course, perhaps you really do not need longer-term therapy. At times it is enough to have a simple conversation or to have someone there, someone who listens to you and hears you, who devotes his or her time and all his or her attention to you.

At the first meeting you do not need to commit yourself to anything: Nothing in particular is expected of you. But with the assistance of the therapist you can come closer to identifying your problems. At this point your encounter with a therapist can also end, but at that moment you can also decide whether to begin with a therapy that is suitable to your problems.

If you want to change your way of responding to certain external events or internal feelings and if you want to eliminate disturbing reactions to those events and feelings, it is advisable to consider the possibility of entering therapy, of entering the ongoing relationship between client and therapist which is established in order to seek out the causes of troublesome symptoms. Using the mechanisms of our own personality as a support – something that is or will be available in the future – we will be able to cope with our problem on our own.
